Life expectancy DOES NOT equal mean lifespan. In 2007 US life expectancy stood at 78.3 yet the age that 50% are expected to reach were 82.2 years (mean lifespan). Life expectancy is always distorted by early-life mortality. Around 60% reach the life expectancy age. Do not confuse average with mean.
